The reason the sex scene in Angel Heart was so controversial was because the girl is Lisa Bonet, aka Denise Huxtable Kendall from The Cosby Show. The sex scene pretty much shattered her "goody-two-shoes" image and allegedly prompted her exit from the show.

I don't think you're giving the imagery enough credit in Angel Heart. Consider that egg scene. Yeah, at face value is indicates the Devil eating Harry Angel's soul, but when you watch the movie a second time through you realize this is an eerie imitation of Johnny Favorite eating Angel's Heart. Plus, when you consider that Lucifer is trying to get Harry to remember who he is, it makes sense that the imagery and metaphors are in your face. He's trying to be as obvious as he can to get Harry to remember. So in a sense, he's trying to egg him on in that seen.

The whole Johnny Favorite angle reminds me of "Jennifer's Body" in that sense, and I wonder if the writers from "Body" took some inspiration "Angel Heart."

When it comes to "Serpent and the Rainbow" it's still a movie that freaks me out. I'd say that entire time-frame when Wes Craven was making "Serpent" and "The People Under the Stairs" was some of his best film-making besides "Nightmare on Elm Street."
