PODCAST 64: Frailty & Savage Streets

This week Forests supports one of the most underrated films of the past decade as he reviews Frailty, and Cory gushes over Linda Blair's breasts in the sleazy '80's exploitation flick, Savage Streets.

Forest rails about watching so many great television shows with so little time. They also cover the new RoboCop and Machete Kills trailers and X-Men: Days of Future Past really gets the guys going.

Don't forget that the next Netflix Movie Night is Friday, September 13th at midnight [eastern]. Watch the movie Friday the 13th: A New Beginning while Cory & Forest "Riff" the movie LIVE!

I love "Frailty". It's got a great twist, and it really does make you think about things on a deeper level then a lot of horror films do, because even with the twist it doesn't really provide you with all the answers. The movie seems to side with the Paxton's character in the end saying he was right all along, but was he getting messages from God, or was he just some sort of psychic that could detect killers, and the visions snapped him into crazy land -- the "god" thing being the best rationalization his mind could come up with. And, from God or not, do his visions give him the right to take justice into his own hands? Does he have the right to involve and ruin his children's lives? Essentially it seems that Paxton and his brainwashing of Adam, and the abuse of Fenton, eventually snapped Fenton over the edge, making him the sort of person Paxton, and later Adam, could detect as killers. But also, this story is told in flashbacks by an unreliable narrator, so who knows what the hell is really going on other than that Adam took up his father's legacy (or perhaps his mental illness)? Pretty deep stuff.

I had to look up Paxton's directing resume after listening to the show...I had no ides that he directed Barnes & Barnes video for "Fish Heads". I remember being surprised that Bill Mumy was one half of B&B, but Paxton's involvement = holy shit!

Ever since I first heard they were doing a Robocop remake, I was more than skeptical to say the least. The original is a bonafide classic that is so good, it doesn't need to be remade because it can't be done better.

Also, that's an extreme dick move on Netflix's part, taking down all Friday the 13th movies on Friday the 13th. That's like taking down a tv series a couple days/weeks before the new season premiere premieres on television. Didn't Netflix give a warning about this, like "Available until September 12"?

Well anyway, I made one of those "in 5 seconds" videos that sums up my feelings about the Netflix issue and Robocop:
