WRITTEN REVIEW: Leaf Blower Massacre

By CORY CARR
This isn’t any lame ass Pennsylvania Leaf Blower Massacre, or some limp-wristed Texas Leaf Blower Massacre. This is the one, the only Leaf Blower Massacre! A homage to ‘80’s slasher movies with a Texas Chainsaw Massacre flair, by filmmaker Anthony Cooney.

Our tale begins with a toddler staring out of a window at a fall landscape. Apparently the morbid chaos that is the autumn season was enough to warp this young boys mind forever, because, twenty years later, he dawns a motorcycle helmet and fatigues as he viciously hunts down innocent passers.

His first victims are a couple as they leave a Cineplex. The killer attacks using the titular weapon of choice, the leaf blower. Once the couple has been dispatched, the killer moves onto his next victim, a poker player taking a leak in an alley way. This poor bastard is pitched into a dumpster once he has had his leaves thoroughly blown.

For his fourth and final victim, the killer grows as a marauding madman, and experiments with another house hold power tool, a circular saw. Which could easily be used as a spring board for a sequel.

THE VERDICT
Leaf Blower Massacre is sweet and to the point. Granted, it’s only twelve minutes long, it doesn’t waste any time with unnecessary character development. The characters are stereotypical enough to understand who they are and why they are in the brief moments that they are on screen. Aside from that, the characters are entertaining and fun to watch.

The same could be said for Leaf Blower Massacre as a whole. It borrows traditional elements from the golden age of the slasher genre to tell it’s story in a way that is more fun to watch as a slasher fan than your typical movie goer.

Having seen Leaf Blower Massacre and the Slasher Studio’s Teddy, I now realize how effective a slasher movie can be as a short.

I also enjoyed the simple, but believable, disguise the killer wore. Again reminiscent of early ‘80’s slasher movies. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what else Anthony Cooney will dream up in the future. Speaking of his future works, below is the trailer for his next film, The Dirty Sanchez.
