PODCAST 210: The Hitcher & The Wraith [The Open Road Edition]

This week the Horror Duo return to their root in the "lower 48" as they navigate the legendary Route 66 while reviewing a pair of road movies. Forest gushes over the killer hitch-hiker flick, The Hitcher...about a hitch-hiker... And Cory covers The Wraith, a killer car movie staring Charlie Sheen.

They also chat about the upcoming UFC/WWE crossover, with CM Punk finally getting a chance to prove himself at UFC 203 and Broc Lesnar balancing both UFC & WWE PPV events with weeks of each other. All this and The Rock seems determined to make the Big Trouble in Little China re-make awesome.

I was surprised that Forest had not heard of THE WRAITH. Him and I are only a few months apart in age and though I never watched it, I know that it was Always coming on network TV on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (and sometimes late Saturday night) on network TV.

With regards to Cory's "crackpot theory" regarding the nature of Rutger Hauer's character in THE HITCHER, I strongly suggest you watch a movie called PHANTOM KUNG FU.

Finally, the reader who suggested a space/moon base theme now that you're both back home:

- Project Moonbase
- The Dark Side of the Moon
- The Green Slime
- Destroy All Monsters!
- Battle in Outer Space
- Mutiny in Outer Space (not to be confused with Space Mutiny)
- The First Men in the Moon

The Hitcher is great. The Wraith is, just, I don't know.

My opinion on The Hitcher, regarding Rutger's character, I thought of him as a Vietnam vet or something, who went through hell and back, and wants to share his experience with the kid by also making him go through hell and back.

Plus there's also that moment when the hitcher lays next to that girl, like she reminds him of someone from his past, a past long gone, foreshadowing what he plans on doing with her to mold and shape the boy even more.

Anyway, hope you don't plan on reviewing the remake.
