PODCAST 254: The Mutilator & How to Make a Monster

This week the Horror Duo put Shudder to the test as they kick of a month of Monsters and Madmen. Forest begins with a film that he wasn't allowed to rent as a boy, but he has always wondered about, The Mutilator. Cory explores the American International Pictures flick How to Make a Monster, that may very well be the first meta-horror film and perhaps a slasher movie predecessor while ALSO being reflective on the monster movie sub-genre of horror. Whoa!

Forest expresses his disappointment with the film Free Fire and chats about confused old people who watch A Boy and His Dog. Cory discusses the prospects of a sixth Tremors film as well as filling the Slaughter Film moon base with living mutants and monsters. All this and "sexy, sexy meat-hooks".

So, I’m a decadent Philistine who doesn’t watch many documentaries, but I would like to recommend the 70s documentary THE HELLSTROM CHRONICLE, which is about insects. The section about ants is as creepy as all get-up.

Also, Forest, did you see the fairly recent “popular” documentaries THE GRIZZLY MAN and KING OF KONG?

I should point out that Jonathan Demme started his career under Roger Corman, directing 70s exploitation films like the original 1974 CAGED HEAT. I guess that’s why Roger Corman has a cameo in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS.

The monsters exhibited in HOW TO MAKE A MONSTER include the cucumber monster from IT CONQUERED THE WORLD and big-breasted gill-man from SHE CREATURE.

Those fucks. Those cocksuckers. Those cunts. Netflix did the one thing that would make me cancel membership with them without hesitation, without a second thought. They have the balls to censor an episode of a series (Bill Nye the Science Guy, the 90s show). Not because of lack of rights to some music bit playing in it, or some name/number/product placement. No, for pure political reasons. I won't tolerate censorship of this kind.

Forget what I said about Netflix movie nights. Fuck Netflix. Go ahead and do the Mondo commentary instead.
