PODCAST 266: Godzilla Vs Destoroyah & Monkey Shines

This week Forest FINALLY completes his voyage through Godzilla's Heisei years - finishing with Godzilla Vs Destoroyah. Cory takes a look at another of George Romero's lesser watched film, Monkey Shines, complete with quadriplegic sex.

The Horror Duo also chat about the autism of Baby Driver, being nostalgic over Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, and Castlevania, the Netflix exclusive that gives "mini-series" a whole new meaning.

Hey, Cory, thanks for the mention. Yeah, "Just Before Dawn" is probably my most revisited slasher film. I just love it. I rate it higher than any of the other slasher-in-the-woods films, as it has a legit creepy vibe to it and doesn't just rely on gimmicky kills and sleaze to sell itself (not that there's anything wrong with those things). Enjoying the Godzilla stuff, Forrest. I need to check those films out, as they sound crazy as fuck.

Anyway, I've been super busy and missed giving congrats for your Five Year Anniversary. That's truly great. Most podcasts don't get past ten episodes. You guy were one of my main influences for getting into doing this stuff myself, and you guys remain an inspiration and a standard bearer of quality content, in my opinion. Thanks for all the work you guys do.

The original idea to end the Heisei series was to make "Godzilla vs. Ghost Godzilla", where the ghost of the 1954 incarnation possesses the body of Godzilla Junior. However, as the series had already featured three monsters derived from Godzilla, the idea was nixed.

I revisited episode 232 this week and, after Forest's gushing about the genius of aliens and zombies, I now openly defy him to watch and review both THE ALIEN DEAD (1981) and the recent PLAN 9 remake for Turkey month in November.

I'm glad you guys are releasing the 'From Under the Ring' show. I made the suggestion of a wrestling "Before you Die" list back in episode 233 and released my definitive list shortly after. To be the best, you have to beat the best! Me!

Forest's Godzilla list will be the icing on the cake, just in time for the American release of Shin Godzilla in August.

Shin Godzilla blu-ray/dvd release that is.... 😉

Ok, so I gotta bitch at Forest's review like a nit-picky nerd for a moment:

What the hell kind of bullshit was that plot recap of Godzilla vs. Destroyah? Godzilla Jr. held his own against that 2nd form of Destroyah (you downplayed how well he could fight goddamnit!), but got annihilated by the 3rd form. Oh yeah, you didn't even mention that Destroyah transforms and has 2-3 different forms. And the military didn't freeze Destroyah, they blew up his wings so he couldn't fly. They froze Godzilla, twice (once in the middle of the film, once during the finale) And you saying Godzilla didn't do much to Destroyah, what a load of shit. Sure he got fucked up by Destroyah, but he blew off one of Destroyah's ears, sliced up his chest, and sent him running/flying, only for Destroyah to be finished off by the military. Unless you become aware of a deleted scene (it's obvious why they didn't include it, from a narrative/thematic perspective, and it wasn't filmed as well:

Plus there's also a deleted scene which, if they finished putting in the special effects, would've been pretty awesome:

One last point to make, you should've hyped up how awesome Destroyah's final form entrance looked, how he emerged from a series of explosions like a demon-bat out of hell.

Other than that, glad you enjoyed it.
