Santa's Slay.

Been a while since I commented. Basically a combination of work and playing Witcher 3, and one thing led to another and I haven't been watching as many videos and podcasts as I usually do. But I'm caught up now.

So yeah, the end of Net Neutrality. In all honesty, I knew this was coming for years. After being involved in this fight the last 2-3 times this happened prior to this repeal, seeing that corporations were continually going to keep attacking this until they win. I've been dealing with the reality that we've been on borrowed time when it came to the freedom of the Internet for years now. However, Kim DotCom and at least one other individual/entity are each working on their own version of a new Internet, built from scratch. This won't appear for at least another 2 years, but it's coming. Besides, it should be common knowledge that it's not always a good thing to rely on just one thing, whether it be a single news agency, oil, or the Internet.

And he thought about the Guild–the force that had specialized for so long that it had become a parasite, unable to exist independently of the life upon which it fed.

[…] they’d chosen always the clear, safe course that leads ever downward into stagnation.
-- Dune, p.766-767

And regarding the monopolies, fascism, downfall of democracy, etc, if you think we've only just started living in it, think again. Net Neutrality only really existed since 2015. People have always been dicks to each other (just look at you guys). People rallying against corporations sometimes aren't any better than them. Just look at George Carlin's later comedy routines, and you'll see this has been going on forever, before you started your podcast, and it will continue after. I'm less worried about all that than I am worried about this millennial generation of pussies who are so politically correct it's beyond sickening.

"Everybody complains about politicians. Everybody says they suck. Well, where do people think these politicians come from? They don't fall out of the sky. They don't pass through a membrane from another reality. They come from American parents and American families, American homes, American schools, American churches, American businesses and American universities, and they are elected by American citizens. This is the best we can do folks. This is what we have to offer. It's what our system produces: Garbage in, garbage out. If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders." -- George Carlin

So take a deep breathe, realize things aren't really any worse than they've been in the past, and continue along.

"Rights aren't 'rights' if someone can take them away-- They're privileges. That's all we've ever had in this country: a bill of temporary privileges." -- George Carlin

"Pain or damage don't end the world, or despair, or fuckin' beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you've got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back." -- Al Swearengen
