PODCAST 298: Mama Dracula & Daughters of Darkness [Belgian Bathory Edition]

This week the Horror Duo take on a pair of suggested films from Belgium. Forest shares his disdain for the horror comedy Mama Dracula staring a remarkable line-up of female actors. Cory covers Daughters of Darkness, a film about spousal abuse and vampires. Each of these draw inspiration from the legend of Lady Bathory.

Forest & Cory also discuss the shortcomings of nerdom and why they are too old to be excited about modern anime. Kevin Smith almost died, and people SHOULD feel shame.

DAUGHTERS OF DARKNESS sounds a lot like BLOOD-SPATTERED BRIDE, which Cory reviewed last year. Both films feature newlywed couples whose male half is a selfish jerk-off whose actions make the bride vulnerable to a predatory female vampire.

So Forest’s prediction was wrong: a movie where Sally Hawkins has sex with the gill man did indeed get the Best Picture Oscar. What a great world we live in.

While many black people may be celebrating their shared Wakandan citizenship, the internet has banded together to let one particular African-American celebrity know that he’s not welcome:

Oh, and Crowdfund alert:

Brutal review Forest but no offence taken :). I maybe should have mentioned Mama was more a Cory film and Daughters was better suited for Forest. I really liked the look of Mama and was pleasantly surprised when I first saw it. Unfortunately there's no really good way to see the film, the quality of the German DVD is also average but better than the VHS rips. I recommended it because it was a nice combo with Daughters. Also, no one in Belgium knows these movies. The director of Daughters is well known, but mostly for his other movies and teaching. Not many people will have seen Daughters

What a pair...of movies that is lol! Just based on the Mama Dracula review,I could almost sense Bruno Mattei's presense on the set, especially the dollar store wolf props. Forest wins quote of the week this time around, with "we meet Mama Dracula, played by Louise Fletcher....Jesus Christ". Upon hearing this,I came dangerously close to becoming a highway statistic due to a case of belly laughs. Ps,are there any photos of you guys hosting the 30's Maniac showing? Forest in a kilt sounds intriguing. Good work guys!
