In some ways, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla II bears resemblance to Pacific Rim. You have people piloting giant robots to fight giant monsters. You also have a monster with a secondary brain, which was a subplot in Pacific Rim, with the monster Otachi (the flying, acid-spitting beast).

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II is certainly the most conventional film of the Heisei series. During the 1990s, a number of older Godzilla fans, especially those who had books or magazines published on the subject, declared this one to be the best of the series. Their reasoning was that it stuck to the basics and did it right, as opposed to the earlier movies, which were a lot more willing to take risks, but maybe a little more flawed. It’s worth it to point out that the writers changed in between Godzilla vs. Mothra and Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. The first three Heisei films were written by Kazuki Omori (he directed Biollante and King Ghidorah as well), and this one was written by Wataru Mimura, who also wrote Godzilla 2000.

Question: Do you have plans for October? Will you continue examining the other Universal monsters, or visit the Hammer films instead?

I have some funny stories about my cousin at Canadohta Lake. This one time we were playing in the water by the dam and it made us 87 percent more flammable. Then there was The Great Raisin Head Lord of all Prunes and Dates. I also remember him jumping his bike one to many times and bending the rim on his new bike but it was a pretty sweet jump. He also let out the most God awful fart that cleared out the cabin and he claimed it like the American Hero he was.In all seriousness who buys a lemon doughnut especially from a douchbag. Time to crack another PBR cheers.

Hey, Cory, thanks for the mention. Yeah, "Just Before Dawn" is probably my most revisited slasher film. I just love it. I rate it higher than any of the other slasher-in-the-woods films, as it has a legit creepy vibe to it and doesn't just rely on gimmicky kills and sleaze to sell itself (not that there's anything wrong with those things). Enjoying the Godzilla stuff, Forrest. I need to check those films out, as they sound crazy as fuck.

Anyway, I've been super busy and missed giving congrats for your Five Year Anniversary. That's truly great. Most podcasts don't get past ten episodes. You guy were one of my main influences for getting into doing this stuff myself, and you guys remain an inspiration and a standard bearer of quality content, in my opinion. Thanks for all the work you guys do.
