I'm trying to follow Forest's odyssey through the Heisei films and revisited GODZILLA VS SPACE GODZILLA last week. I used to be a big defender of the movie, but it has aged the worst for me. The story doesn't make a lick of sense if you think about it--the Godzilla cells that Mothra transported, or Biollante, would have to travel at faster-than-light speed to find the nearest blackhole, enter it, and come back to Earth in the two years that elapse between Godzilla vs. Mothra and this film (or five years, in the case of Godzilla vs. Biollante). Miki Saegusa's haircut and wardrobe are hideous, and the space FX made me pine for 50s sci-fi films. MOGERA is an update of Moguera, who appeared in the 1957 Toho film THE MYSTERIANS.
About identifying with characters: most of the movies in my collection are Hong Kong action or Japanese kaiju films, so appearance isn't necessary at all for me to identify with a character. And, like Forest, ever since I saw ALIENS back in the 3rd grade, I've had a major crush on Strong female characters, especially those who kick literal ass in movies. I have an unpublished Young adult novel where the most powerful is an adolescent girl, and whenever I play fighting games or beat'em games like Streets of Rage, I tend to favor the female characters like Chun Li, Sakura, Blaze, etc. People are praising WONDER WOMAN for its Strong female character while I'm saying, "Amateurs. Hong Kong has been doing that since the mid-60s, if not longer."

1952 – Great Smog of London – Baffling meteorologists and defying atmospheric…this unexplained weather phenomenon saw London’s…overwhelmed by huge clouds of air-polluting smoke. Monarch theorizes that the beating wings of a giant [creature] could have created an anticyclone that unleashed…pollutants across the city.
1954 – Monarch goes Global – As the age of the atomic bomb dawns, Monarch, a multinational coalition of scientists leading covert missions to understand…M.U.T.O.s authorized unofficially…and overseen by General MacArthur...
1959 – Siberian Mystery
1973 – Skull Island Expedition (events of Kong: Skull Island)
1991 - Isla de Mona - A covert Monarch team establishes a quarantine zone around the island's dormant volcano, under the guise of "environmental research". Over the coming years, what began as a small scientific outpost will expand to become a full containment facility around the mouth of the volcano.
1995 - Return to Skull Island - Monarch Security Officer Aaron Brooks defies his father Houston Brooks and leads an off-the-books expedition to Skull Island, to determine what became of Kong since the 1973 expedition.
1999 - Janjira Meltdown (events depicted in Godzilla 2014)
2005 - The Mysterious Mercenary - British Army Colonel and MI-6 agent Jonah Alan is locked up in a Pakistani prison after an encounter with Monarch agents. Alan and his band of mercenary accomplices were caught trying to breach the walls of a subterranean M.U.T.O. dig-site.
2009 - Temple of the Moth - Mythographic studies of Chinese Temples leads Monarch to the high-altitude jungles of the Yunnan province. Dr. Emma Russell and her team follow a mysterious bio-accoustic signature to a previously undiscovered temple, within which lies a gigantic cocoon. A quickening heartbeat is detected inside.
2012 - Message in a Bottle - Days before retirement, Monarch veteran Houston Brooks receives a coded message from his son. The mission to Skull Island has revealed dramatic new information about Kong's origins, and his role on the island. (OBS: This is handled in the SKULL ISLAND comic)
2014 - The Battle of San Francisco - The existence of giant superspecies is revealed to the world as Godzilla battles with two M.U.T.O.s in the center of San Francisco. Unleashing devastation upon the urban center, the world watches as Godzilla defends our world and restores balance to the natural order. The time has come for Monarch to step out of the shadows. (events depicted in Godzilla 2014)
2016 - Monster Zero - When Monarch discovers an extraordinary superspecies beneath the Antarctic Ice Sheet, Dr. Vivienne Graham leads the effort to build a covert containment and research facility around the dormant creature. Her classified field notes contain the mysterious footnote: "The devil has three heads."
So normally I'd be asking about what Forest thought of Godzilla vs. Destroyah and if he thinks its the greatest Godzilla film ever next to the original, or if Corey is ever going to review some animated flick like Heavy Metal or something (I have a list of greatest animated films not made by Disney/Dreamworks/Pixar/Laika/Ghibli on letterboxd for some solid recommendations)...
...but I'm too mesmerized by an animated film I had never heard of before, let alone seen, from the 80s, called The Adventures of the American Rabbit, a film about a rabbit who can run so fast his white fur transforms into the American flag, his feet form into roller skates, and he can fly. Fuck the Care Bears and the Bald Eagle, why isn't this the main American animal symbol/mascot?
Seriously, it's worth watching the first 40 seconds of the film just to realize this actually exists:
