To get ready for this episode, I watched Cronenberg's THE FLY over the weekend. It was a good movie, with some gross make-up effects at the end. Seth Brundle's speech about penetrating the plasma is the strangest megalomaniacal speech I've heard from a film of this ilk. I don't think anyone other than Jeff Goldblum would've been able to make the speech work.

I saw THE FLY II years ago on network TV. I remember liking it more than other people did, although I thought the final monster should've been more fly-like.
